Jasmine Loh spent over 30 years in the corporate world, specializing in the marketing of pharmaceuticals. As she reflected on her future, she began to consider what she truly wanted next. As a passionate runner for ten years, the sport was starting to take a toll on her joints, guiding her to seek out more restorative activities. Loh needed something that would help her stretch, improve her mobility, and enhance her overall quality of life. This led her to yoga, which ultimately inspired her career shift.
After becoming a regular yoga practitioner, Loh met and fell in love with her yoga instructor, an experienced Indian yoga teacher. Together, they decided to turn their shared passion into a business, launching Jal Yoga in 2017, where they offer authentic yoga, barre, and Pilates. With the help of Mindbody's software, what started as a single studio has now grown into a thriving brand with six locations across Singapore and expansions into Malaysia, Dubai, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Loh and her husband have built a strong, dedicated community of over 3,000 members who value the authenticity and expertise of their brand.
The business mind behind the studio
Thanks to her corporate background, Loh entered the fitness and wellness industry with a strategic advantage rooted in her business-first mindset. This perspective allowed her to effectively navigate operational challenges and even the hiring process. As a local Singaporean, she was well-versed in the country's tight labor regulations, which enabled her to secure employment passes for highly qualified and passionate yoga instructors from India.
Still, scaling a multi-location fitness business required more than just passion and business acumen—it required the right technology. That’s where Mindbody came in.
Loh's husband was first introduced to Mindbody through his previous experience with the platform at another company. When they needed a system to manage bookings, scheduling, and customer relationships, Mindbody was the clear choice.
Better analytics and better governance
For Loh, efficiency is key. Her day starts with checking sales from the day before on the Mindbody Business app before heading to her 7:30 AM yoga class. With real-time insights at her fingertips, she can quickly assess performance without relying on staff for updates. While her team is highly client-oriented, they aren’t deeply involved in the business side of operations, making Mindbody’s Analytics 2.0 dashboard function invaluable, allowing her to independently track key metrics and make informed decisions.
After yoga, she shifts focus to her family before diving into business operations. Mornings are spent on her laptop, checking emails and strategizing with her operations team. Overseeing operations in Singapore while her husband manages overseas locations, she visits her studios a couple of times a week to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Once a month, she leads a management meeting, where Analytics 2.0 plays a crucial role. Her favorite insights include sales, revenue, month-over-month and year-over-year performance, class utilization rates, and attendance. "The analytics function is very important for us. We have partnering and franchise businesses overseas as well. We're able to review and track performance all on the dashboard. That's very helpful," Loh shared.
Mindbody’s analytics have created more governance, enabling Loh to dive deeper into studio performance by location and category. This allows them to refine pricing strategies, optimize discounts, and maximize profitability. With real-time access to revenue trends and class utilization, she can make quick, data-driven decisions without waiting for staff updates.
Enhancing the client experience
Despite Jal Yoga’s large client base, they remain a tight-knit business where Loh prioritizes accessibility and personal connections with clients. She values providing a high-quality experience and encourages potential clients to visit the studios, take trial classes, and connect with the staff before making a purchase.
That commitment to in-person engagement hasn’t stopped them from embracing digital solutions. Previously juggling multiple marketing tools, Jal Yoga now uses Mindbody’s Marketing Suite to connect with current and prospective clients. Additionally, because Loh recognizes the importance of seamless digital transactions, she recently adopted Mindbody Payments. This simplifies the process for online purchases related to workshops, ClassPass bookings, and class packages. While in-person engagement remains central to the business, integrating online payment options has improved convenience for clients and created additional revenue opportunities.
Mindbody has also strengthened Jal Yoga’s client retention efforts with its comprehensive client management system. The ability to track client interactions, preferences, and attendance patterns allows the team to personalize their approach, enhance engagement, and build lasting relationships with members.
The platform that grows with you
Loh has not yet found a better platform for her business and believes that Mindbody is a worthwhile investment. The benefits of having an integrated platform, viewing all information in one place, and access to a dedicated tech support person have been crucial to their success.
As Jal Yoga continues to expand internationally, Mindbody remains a key partner in their journey. With new locations and a growing demand for authentic yoga experiences, Jasmine and her husband are confident that their business has the foundation it needs to thrive.
Her advice to other wellness entrepreneurs? “Having an integrated platform that is easy to use for your operations is important. You need to find a solution that fits your needs. If you're a smaller studio just starting out, you may not require all the features right away, but as you grow, you'll appreciate everything Mindbody has to offer.”
