4 Ways to Sell Even More Retail at Your Spa
August 21, 2023
So, you want to sell more retail at your spa—what spa owner doesn’t?
Before you start brainstorming ways to increase sales, you’ll first want to see how you’re doing.
Take a look at the sales reports in your spa software to get a sense of how much you’re actually profiting from retail sales. If that number is less than 30% of your spa revenue, you’ll likely want to create a more robust retail strategy to help improve the profitability at your spa business.
From aromatherapy and lotions to high-end skin care and apparel, spa retail products help clients relax and feel better—even in the comfort of their own homes. And while these all sound like luxurious items any client would want to walk home with getting a client to spend more after paying for a service can be rather tricky. Luckily, we have four effective ways to strengthen your retail sales. Ready?
1. Presentation is everything
Whether you’re in the midst of the holiday season or you’re looking for a great way to display products year-round, one thing is for certain—people shop with their eyes. That’s why an organized and visually-appealing retail display is important to grab your clients attention while they’re in the waiting room or during the checkout process.
If you experience a lull during the mid-afternoon or on a particularly slow summer day, use the downtime to play around with your displays to keep your inventory looking fresh. You can even look at our spa display Pinterest board for ideas.

2. Offer discounts or specials
Everyone loves a good deal especially when it comes to buying luxury items that make them feel like they’re at your spa every day.
Boost retail sales by offering discounts for certain products and services. For example, offer a discount on products used during the client’s service. For example, let’s say your client just got a massage, upsell the oil or lotion used during the treatment by offering a 25% discount on it. You might also consider bundling products together at a discount and pair slightly less popular products with your best-sellers. This way, you’ll be generating revenue by selling products that might otherwise collect dust on your shelves.
3. Show some love to your loyal customers
Why not reward your loyal customers all year long? I can’t stress how important it is to maintain customer profiles and track customer loyalty—and this could be the key to selling more spa retail.
Say “thank you” to your most loyal customers with a discount specifically for them. If you’re a MINDBODY customer, use the Big Spenders report to find your most precious customers and then offer a “We Love Our Customers” discount on products or services. Rewarding your existing customers will keep them coming back, and will generate more revenue.
4. Promote, promote, promote!
The last thing you want is to have your special offers and discounts go unnoticed by the public. So, make sure to promote them across every marketing channel, including email marketing, social media, and in your physical space too. Getting the word out about your spa’s promotions is the first and, perhaps, most important step toward generating more retail revenue at your business.
